Kongsfjordfjellet is a splendid mountain area with a wide range of montane species, easily accessible along the highway towards the northern shores of the Varanger Peninsula. This sparsely vegetated mountain plateau is almost invariably cold and largely covered in snow well into mid-summer. At the wetlands in Gednjedalen valley on the north side, the densities of breeding Ringed Plover, Golden Plover and Temminck’s Stint are among the highest in Norway.
